Northrop Grumman Information Systems Sector is seeking a Linux Systems Administrator to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The qualified applicant will become part of the sector's Intelligence Division on a large, accomplished program in the ESSEX Business Unit. This position will be located in Annapolis Junction, MD.

Roles and Responsibilities:
* * Provide system administration services for Linux / UNIX infrastructure and development systems (scripting, loading machines using KickStart, system configuration)
* * Ensure systems are kept in required configuration profile, including: patch maintenance, changes as required by evolvement of production environments, updating software and software configurations
* * Maintain up to date system documentation for all responsible systems
* * Troubleshoot Linux and Solaris systems identifying hardware, software, and procedural issues
* * Respond to internal trouble ticket system requests:
o Respond promptly and courteously to developer / engineering requests for assistance, take ownership and ensure resolution of tickets in a timely manner
o Determine the nature of the problem being reported
o Initiate the action necessary to resolve the problem
o Document all communication to and from customers
o Ensure follow-up on outstanding service issues
* * Implement plans for deploying new services in a highly available and automated environment
* * Responsible for configuring and maintaining Veritas NetBackup (backup for primary NetBackup administrator):
o Work with primary backup technician to configure and maintain Veritas NetBackup services running on Linux servers
o Work with primary backup technician to quarterly verify and document that program data is being properly backed up
* * Be a proactive member of team looking for improvements in technologies and efficiencies.
* * Assume other duties / projects as they arise and be responsive to the needs of the department
* * Provide weekly status report on activities completed in the last week and current projects
* * Participate in On-Call group to provide after hours assistance
* * Position may also entail acting as a lead for escalations, mentorship of more jr staff, and high level projects
* * Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
* Bachelor's Degree in IT related field
* * Minimum of 14 years of experience (BA/BS degree may be substituted for experience)
* * 5+ years experience as a Linux Sys Admin working with RedHat Enterprise Linux, RHEL 3 or 4
* * Experience using KickStart or JumpStart to automate system installations
* * 3+ years experience with DHCP, NIS, NFS, Samba, SSH configuration
* * 3+ years of data center experience (racking, cabling, install and configuration, configuration management)
* Position requires a current TS/SCI security clearance w/ Polygraph

Desired Qualifications:
Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
* * RHCT or higher certification
* * Shell scripting experience (BASH/CSH/PERL)
* * Experience configuring SANs
* * Experience configuring Linux to authenticate against LDAP
* * Experience working with Rational ClearCase
* * Experience configuring Apache
* * Experience configuring maintaining DNS (BIND)
* * Experience configuring / maintaining Veritas NetBackup 5 or later version
* * CCNA or greater certification (Cisco switching experience configuring VLANS, DMZ, NAT, access lists, multicast)
* * Experience with Firewall configurations, preferably with Cisco PIX 5xx and FWSMs
* * Experience working with Remedy or TrackIT helpdesk tools
* * Dell certified (WPD - Servers/Desktops)
* * A commitment to quality customer service
* * A strong work ethic; displays initiative, very hands-on, as well as a sense of urgency in completing assigned tasks
* * Superior technical skills; strong problem analysis and troubleshooting skills
* * Excellent listening, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
* * Ability to work independently with minimum supervision, as well as work effectively on a team with other IT personnel in a dynamic and fast paced environment
** TS/SCI Security Clearance with Full Scope Polygraph is preferred for this position.
