Northrop Grumman's Cyber and SIGINT Systems' ESL sites, located in Sacramento, is a premier supplier of airborne reconnaissance systems, strategic signal processing systems, intelligence analyses, and telecommunication system products, technologies and services for national security, defense, public sector, and commercial customers. Northrop Grumman Electromagnetic Systems Laboratory in Sacramento, California is seeking an EMI/EMC/Power Engineer. The EMI/EMC/Power engineer will be required to do EMI/EMC and Power design tasks and perform MIL-STD-461 tests. The EMI/EMC/Power engineer will have the following responsibilities:
1. Evaluate EMC environments of platforms and systems to identify problem areas and recommend solutions.
2. Establish EMI requirements and specifications to be applied to digital and RF HW items during development.
3. Design/specify power filters and power supplies for each HW item so as to meet the EMI requirements as well as meeting environmental, space, weight, and power constraints.
4. Review and analyze EE and ME designs to determine what EMI suppression measures need to be applied in order to meet the EMI requirements.
5. Select/approve EMI gasket materials, finishes, filters, and connector styles.
6. Review cable/connector interface designs and recommend changes for proper EMI suppression techniques.
7. Perform electromagnetic analysis to evaluate potential solutions that would reduce risk, cost and complexity of design and test problems.
8. Write design guidelines and control plans.
9. Give presentations discussing design and status.
10. Write EMI/EMC laboratory/field test plans, test procedures, and reports.
11. Supervise and perform both engineering and formal qualification EMI/EMC laboratory/field tests of the hardware items, power supplies, and filters.
12. Troubleshoot test problems and determine solutions.
13. Communicate budget and schedule status with functional and program management.
14. Identify and obtain quotations for test equipment needed to be procured to satisfy EMI/EMC test requirements.
15. Research and evaluate alternative design and test approaches.
16. Recommend improvements to department policies and procedures.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: BS Degree and 5 years of directly related experience. The applicant must have design and test experience in the fields of electromagnetic environmental effects: electromagnetic interference, electromagnetic compatibility, transients, power supplies, power distribution, and/or TEMPEST. Experience in reviewing electrical and mechanical engineering designs for compliance with EMI/EMC requirements is a must. Each applicant must have experience in preparation of test plans, test reports, design guidelines or control plans. Good verbal and written communication skills are required.
