Where technology and teamwork come together......Join a team of experienced professionals supporting an IT department at a large civilian agency of the US government with a specialized expertise in Unix admin including HP-UX, Solaris, AIX, and Linux. Provide technical support for the hosting services multiple Unix-based applications software and hardware systems and for general system administration needs.
This mid-level position requires 2-4 years experience in Unix administration and requires a self-starter with excellent customer support and communication skills. This Unix Admin will assist and work with Senior Staff in providing technical support and hardware and software expertise. He/she will also provide customer support for a user community with multiple system requirements
System administration tasks include:
Provide Unix System Administration support to various Solaris, HP-UX, Linux, and AIX Servers, including servers which encompass distinct hardware environments setup such as single processors, multiple processors, standalone and/or clustered systems.
Configure, implement, and maintain standalone and SAN/NAS storage technology including controllers and disk storage shelves.
Configure and implement network interfaces using a variety of network topologies
Maintain system accounting files and logs and system error logs.
Configure, implement, and maintain system file systems including Advanced File Systems, On-Line JFS, ZFS, VxFS
Monitor and maintain adequate file space for the operating system and application files.
Install and implement new releases and patches to the operating system software.
Design, develop, and implement scripts on Unix based system to automate administration functions
Implement security structures provided by the security infrastructure group to prevent unauthorized access and maintain system security
Maintain and document operating procedures
Troubleshoot problems and take corrective action to fix problem in a timely manner
Monitor system performance and take corrective action to optimize usage of system resources
Test operation of software and database upgrades
Provide on-call support
Skills/Qualifications:
BA/BS engineering degree or equivalent experience
3-5 years of related experience as described above.
In depth knowledge of Unix configurations, administration and performance management - including a combination of HP-UX, Solaris, Linux, AIX
Unix Scripting skills desirable
Excellent interpersonal and strong written and verbal communication skills
Must pass a US government ‘Public Trust' clearance
Security Clearance Required.
