DESCRIPTION

Join a multidiscipline science team providing leadership and oversight of cutting edge Department of Defense research to enable high-payoff critical capabilities that protect the nation and its military from the threat and effects associated with weapons of mass destruction (WMD). This position will be located in Lorton, VA. The qualified applicant will be a key member supporting the Northrop Grumman contract to the Defense Threat Reduction Agency. The successful applicant will lead efforts for solicitation development, solicitation posting, solicitation communications, proposal receipt, peer review of proposals, the selection process, and the award process; develop and document business processes for the research programs, as required; assist with the development of an automated grants management system to streamline and encompass established business processes; conduct training on business process and website applications for technical and programmatic staff; assist with the identification, coordination and nurturing of basic and early applied science; provide state of the science assessments on research and/or applied science gaps supporting DOD capability needs, limitations and opportunities for science and technology to affect improvements; assist with the identification of potential transition paths (from the basic research lab to engineering development); and author reports and meeting minutes.

QUALIFICATIONS

A degree in a physical science (chemistry, physics, materials science, geology, meteorology, others will be considered) and professional experience is required as follows: BS with 5 years experience; MS with 3 years experience, or a Ph.D. Demonstrated experience in technical program management is required (managing your own research counts), and experience in transitioning technologies from research to advanced engineering or to production is highly desired. A current DoD Secret clearance or eligibility for such a clearance is required. Strong written and oral communications skills are required, as is facility with Microsoft Office applications. Experience conducting or managing basic and early applied research is desired. In addition, experience with data analysis and statistics is highly desired, as is the ability to apply technical principles to the development of innovative solutions to long-term problems. Finally, the successful applicant will have excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work productively as part of a team to deliver high-quality information products to the customer.
